Fashion week is coming up and guess whose going? That’s right, yours truly is. While InStyle magazine is not my bible, I am looking forward to a handful of designers that I find both fashionable and amazing.

Anna Sui
Anna Sui is probably one of the most prominent Asian fashion designers in the world. She started with a small boutique in the Soho district of New York which reflected her flea market furniture and dolly head mannequins style. She continued on her career path and has been successful since. Putting aside that I’m an avid Asian lover, I’m really looking forward to her because she practically speaks to me. If you’ve seen her beauty shops, you’ll know that she isn’t your average designer. Her Victorian, 80’s, goth style is something unique and attractive. She mixes an assortment of patterns and colors especially pink, purple and black that puts Hello Kitty to shame. I loved her Spring 2008 Collection and can’t wait to see what she’s come up with for this Spring.

Twinkle by Wenlan
Twinkle by Wenlan is also an Asian designer that’s been up and coming in the fashion world. There isn’t much information on this New York native but I do know that she’s been signed with Nordstorm in addition to a book release. Her style is very different from Anna Sui in that she’s much softer and more feminine. Right now she seems to be big on knits due to her upcoming fashion show in February ’09 which features all knits! But back to her latest collection, she displays the runway show of her Fall 2008 collection on her website. So far I like what I see considering I’ve toned down my style a lot since high school (graduated 2007).

Project Runway
Who doesn’t love this show? So far my bets are on Kelli and Kenley. They’re both from the South and lovers of designer Betsey Johnson. Why I like them? Well punk rock mixed with a vixen is hard not to like. Their recent work in episode five was awesome when they had to work with another designer to create a look for the everyday business woman. While they both came up with completely different outfits with their partners, their results were undeniably amazing. I only wish that they were dressing me.

BCBGMaxazria
Max Azria is a Jewish fashion designer who came from Paris and moved to California to start BCBG. The acronym stands for the French saying “bon chic, bon genre” which means good style, good attitude. Azria has always in my mind been very hip. Looking through his Fall collection, he features a lot of brighter neutrals and grays than everyone else I’ve seen which I love! Fall shouldn’t be boring and I’m glad someone recognizes that. Not only are his clothing more colorful, it’s much more modern/trendy in that you would see teenagers wearing his clothes and by that I don’t mean it’s revealing.

Academy of Art University
I almost attended this college once upon a time which is why I’m looking forward to see what the attendees have come up with for Fashion Week. I wasn’t a Fashion major but creativity can speak many languages. I’m expecting to see something rawer and less defined that your average fashion designer which I think will make things more interesting. I’ve always liked seeing the products of college students online and now I’ll get to see all the details in person.
